From October 10-12, the 16th International Conference on Food Studies will be held at the University of Osaka, Japan. Gustolab International is proud to take part, with Prof. Jack D. Harris and Dr. Pier Alberto Merli joining as presenters.

This year's theme, "Living with Water: Food and Life," invites scholars to rethink the deep connections between food systems, water, and human life amid global climate and food challenges. It aligns closely with Gustolab's long-standing commitment to Critical Food Studies. 

Japan has always been one of Gustolab's core academic bases. We have a rich network of field resources and partners across Osaka and beyond — from food factories and traditional markets to satoyama farms and fermentation workshops. Alongside this conference, we are also excited to announce that the Gustolab 2027 Summer Program will take place in Osaka, offering students an immersive food studies experience in Japan's fields and kitchens.
